Meet Tony D.

Hello, my name is Tony D’Arezzo and I’m running for Select Board.

The Town of Reading Select Board is composed of 5 equal members. No one voice is more important than any other. We need leadership that can work with other members of the board, town staff, volunteers and residents. A board that makes decisions based on facts and current conditions as opposed to predefined notions. The goal of every elected official and appointed volunteer should be to determine what is best for the town overall.

Throughout my career, I have been responsible for decisions that stretched far beyond my immediate area. Though I had a small staff who reported to me, as IT Manager, the decisions I made impacted everyone in the company. I couldn’t just impose my desired outcomes. If I wanted to ensure the smooth operation of a $100 million company with employees covering Maine to New York, I needed to understand the potential impacts. This required doing the research, by talking with and explaining the changes to everyone, technicians working on the road, office workers, managers and executives.

These discussions allowed me to re-evaluate aspects of the decisions. Sometimes small adjustments needed to be made, other times, significant changes were needed to accommodate different work requirements. I needed to remain open to other viewpoints and perspectives, and be willing to admit when I was wrong.

As a member of the Community Planning and Development Commission, CPDC, from 2017 to 2024, first as an Associate Member, and later as Full Member, I used these skills and decision making processes to balance the rights of developers against the impacts to the neighbors and the needs of the town.

So I ask for your support of my candidacy, with the promise, that if elected, I will respect everyone’s opinion, accept criticism in the spirit it is intended and make decisions based on what would be in the best interest of the Town of Reading.

Sincerely,

Tony D’Arezzo
